Social work subjects offer students the opportunity to integrate theory and practice into an organization or agency where social worker roles are needed. Internships allow students to develop a basic skill set that employers are looking for to develop a work history and network contacts. The field offices are recognized sites based on the quality of professional practice, commitment to solving social problems and interest in participation in the vocational training of MSW students. The branch is responsible for providing learning opportunities that are representative of the practice of social work in the region and/or the student community. For general requests for work-integrated learning opportunities, please contact: field offices are expected to provide „in vivo“ experiences relevant to academic content. On the other hand, students are expected to apply academic knowledge, social skills at work, critical thinking, professional behaviour, ethics and values of value in direct practice. The Australian Association of Social Work (AASW) regulates and informs academic and placement content of all university degrees in Australia to ensure that a similar standard is met across the country. Field Education prepares students to enter the social work profession by achieving the following goals: learning knowledge in their field work while putting it into practice. Field training provides this opportunity for students and helps to increase their skills as future social workers.
This requires a strong commitment, commitment and active participation of the MSW student/candidate. The MSW student/candidate has the unique challenge of acquiring knowledge and skills to learn the principles of the social work profession and the code of ethics in the classroom and field placement. Field Education is a standalone and comprehensive sequence of the MSW program. Students are exposed to selected and organized courses based on education and education standards (EPAS) and the 9 Basic Skills council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Read more The field internship, also known as a study or internship, is a unit that generally merits a series of courses over four semesters. Official MOAs or contract field agencies are located across the country and provide a wide range of social work services and practices. Students must participate in integration sessions before and during the internship in order to prepare and exchange their internship experiences. Students also have evaluation pieces during placement, including a learning agreement and a final essay.
MSW interns are supervised by Agency-appointed field teachers accredited by USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. Local teachers are committed to the placement and maintenance of the values, ethics and skills of the social work profession and must meet the following requirements to follow students in field placements: MSW students are compared to different social institutions, public authorities, private organizations or even non-traditional social work organizations.
